Authentic Mysore Silk Guide

Ensure you buy genuine Mysore silk by knowing what to look for. Authentic Mysore silk sarees carry the Silk Mark label or government certification and have a natural sheen, smooth texture and a heavier weight than synthetic blends.

Examine the intricate zari work: real Mysore silk uses pure silver and gold-coated threads, whereas fake sarees often use metallic yarns that feel rough. Genuine silk is also breathable and cool to the touch. Avoid deals that seem too cheap; high-quality silk comes at a premium due to the labor and materials involved.

When in doubt, purchase from trusted sellers, verified cooperatives or government emporiums. You can also perform a simple burn test on a loose thread: real silk burns slowly and smells like burning hair, while synthetics melt and smell like plastic.
